Changing Places

Established in 2005, Changing Places is a not-for-profit organisation, offering toilet design advice to venues who are planning to install unisex accessible toilets for people with disabilities. They work to support the rights of individuals with disabilities and are the focal point of the Changing Places campaign in the United Kingdom, increasing accessibility to public toilet facilities for disabled visitors with wheelchairs. They have worked alongside such companies as Lloyds Bank, Tesco and the NHS.

Their pioneering work has been the inspiration for the team here at BIGLOO, in adapting the Changing Places standard to a wheelchair accessible portable restroom for persons with disabilities, that as a portable toilet that can be relocated more easily. Simplifying parts of the accessible bathroom specification to make the BIGLOO accessible toilet more suited to the hire market, yet still retaining the important accessible design for disabled individuals and wheelchair users:-

H [X/Y] rail system with the full 2.4m internal installed height, adjustable changing-table, the disabled toilet seat height and disabled access ramp. We can, of course build BIGLOO disabled toilets with changing tables and washroom facilities to be comply with the Changing Places BS8300 standard for any permanent installation – subject to a site survey to ensure it can be delivered and sited safely at the proposed location.
